Town Food and BeverageMykonos Town offers many dining options, in many price ranges, to accommodate the island visitors. One of the decisions you have to make is what kind of a setting you are looking for. If you are looking for a sea view, you will want to choose the Alefkandra area (around and near to the famous windmills), Little Venice (at the edge of the sea wall or hanging over the sea) or Gialos (the harbor front). Scattered throughout town are many tavernas or restaurants, some with gardens, some located in and around plateias (public squares), or with terraces overlooking or on one of the busy, small streets. Dining establishments come in all shapes and sizes; quaint, modern or traditional; fast food, Greek or international cuisine, you can choose one of the trendy restaurants or find a hidden gem off the beaten track. Many tourists and locals enjoy watching the world go by while dining on the harbor front (known as Gialos). This is the heart of the island where you can feel the energy while watching boats and ships of all kinds arriving and departing the island. The harbor is lined with cafes, taverna - restaurants that all have similar fare offered on their menus, from snacks to full meals. It may seem hard to choose, some will have menus displayed or a greeter inviting you to sit. Look over the menu, prices or what others are eating to determine if that is what you are looking for...the competition is fierce, though it is one of the most picturesque settings of Mykonos and is a must for at least a snack or one of your meals while on holiday here. Restaurant owners, chefs and menus can change from year to year. Names change or an establishment closes, but you can always find a wide range to choose from and discover your favorite. |
